Fee policy health check

Fee policy for colleges and adult providers is rising up the agenda as the government seeks a new balance between the public purse and what the customer pays. The LSC plans to adjust provider budgets to assume a greater amount of fee income each year. And there's plenty of evidence of wide differentials in fee performance between institutions – from those that earn much more than their LSC fee assumption, to those that raise less than 10%. So it's never been more important to check how fee policy and practice is working for you.

The LSN Fee Health-Check is a three stage programme. Our consultant visits the college, meeting senior staff, getting to grips the institution's values and current policies as well as the local environment. We look at the numbers – how the statements in the accounts are prepared, and plans for the future. We check implementation, too – one earlier study revealed one college which was losing a six figure sum due to poor internal systems. All your information is analysed, and we visit again to deliver a debrief – looking at strong and weak areas of performance, and working with you to develop an action plan to maximise income.

The last part of our programme is a follow-up visit to check the impact and progress of the action plan, and to get feedback from you on the aspects that were most helpful. The emphasis will be on revenue gained from LSC funded programmes, though we can give you insights to help more commercial work.
